This amazing nonprofit in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, is all about social justice and building a strong community. Their mission is to empower the Boyle Heights community through grassroots projects focused on education, leadership, and service. Each year, they touch the lives of over 6,000 children and families through programs like early childhood education, youth development, homeless shelters, and community organizing.

In the wake of the devastating Pacific Palisades fire, the community was left grappling with immense loss and widespread destruction. Homes were reduced to ash, and the familiar landscape was scarred by the flames. Amidst the heartbreak, a beacon of hope emerged from an unexpected quarter: the dedicated employees of Lights Up.
We weren’t just individuals fulfilling a corporate social responsibility initiative; we were volunteers driven by a genuine desire to help our neighbors. Donning our Lights Up shirts, a symbol of their unity and commitment, we descended upon the affected areas, ready to lend a hand wherever it was needed most.
With shovels, rakes, and an unwavering spirit, the Lights Up team tackled the arduous task of debris removal. We cleared charred remnants from properties, carefully sifting through the rubble, sometimes unearthing small, precious mementos for families who had lost everything. It was back-breaking work, often performed under the hot California sun, but their resolve never wavered.
Beyond the physical labor, Lights Up offered something equally vital: compassion and a listening ear. We spoke with families who were navigating the initial shock and grief, offering words of comfort and solidarity. We helped connect victims with resources, shared information about recovery efforts, and simply stood by them as a reassuring presence.
